Open Door Program
Do you have an immediate need such as food, shelter, clothing or transportation? Fill out our short form to be connected with our Open Door staff so we can see what resources are available to help you today:
Established by the Illinois Department of Human Services in Chicago, the Rock Island area Open Door program began operating in 2010 to serve as a one-stop resource for those in immediate need of assistance. Open Door provides community members with free help navigating the social services organizations in the area, and directs its clients to appropriate agencies or personally offers assistance in obtaining food, clothing, shelter, employment, or crisis counseling.
The Open Door pilot program was designed to accommodate and provide services to customers facing barriers, due to inadequate or limited support systems, which prevented them from accessing available services such as medication, employment, transportation, or rehabilitation. The unique component of Open Door is that as soon as assistance is requested services are provided. Open Door staff provide direct assistance and link the customer to the appropriate IDHS program in a timely and streamlined manner. When immediate intervention is not required, Open Door may serve as a referral source and/or assist the client in navigating the service delivery system.
Since its inception, the program has now spread to include multiple locations throughout the state of Illinois, and continues to serve as a valuable resource to those in need.
